jpg for example, or after all you can enter black and white points by hand in Color menu. in vuescan you have an opportunity to choose to save manually after scanning, you can save as dng raw for later, or just right click the image for auto-levels/auto color and save as. I can't believe Canon have made what does turn out to be a great little scanner (my CanoScan 8400F) and bundled it with horrible software that's not merely a bad interface, but actually makes the scanner perform well below its capabilities. Good to know you like vue scan’s raw features. Hopefully this will sort itself out with the proper version.

However in the demo version it didn't seem to offer useful batch scanning, indeed it seemed to require that I know which frame (of the 12 in the film holder) I want to scan, without giving a full preview of the whole lot. I have tried out the SilverFast demo and the interface seems rather less user-friendly than VueScan (with VueScan I had a really nice scan within a few minutes of downloading with SilverFast, well I am still a little puzzled, though the scan quality is indeed excellent too).
